What a treat! I was invited to attend the WIN for KC awards luncheon on Friday. A friend through Epic had some extra tickets at her corporate table, and Scott invited me to attend. The keynote speaker was to be Billie Jean King, so I immediately thought of Cammy, since she's back to playing tennis.
Cammy and I met up at Briarcliff and drove to Crown Center together. It's always fun catching up with Cammy! We ran into Scott almost immediately after getting to the hotel, so we followed him up to his booth. The timing was perfect, as the lunch was just about to start when we arrived.
Thanks to Tiernan, we had a fantastic table, right up by the stage. Unfortunately, Billie Jean King had a family emergency and was unable to make it to the event, however, she sent Chanda Rubin in her place. Chanda did a fantastic job delivering her story and I was impressed with her resume!
This was a pretty inspiring occasion - seeing all these local women who are making a difference through sport! So, there was a gal and her mother sitting next to me. The girl asked where Cammy and I work, so I filled her in on what we used to do and told her that I work part time at Epic. She said, "oh, my husband bought his bike at Epic..." The conversation unfolds and she tells me that her husband is training for an ironman that's in June. So, of course I asked if it happened to be Coeur d'Alene. It was! I told them that I did that in '08, so we started talking all about the location, event, training, etc. She asked for my contact information in case her husband had any questions. What a small world, huh?
Tiernan (the gal who actually extended the invite) asked Cammy and I if we wanted to go to the VIP reception. We were each able to get a photo taken with Chanda. It was also a great opportunity to catch up with Tiernan and hear what she's been up to. We talked about racing this season - riding, running, etc. It was fun!
