Happy Thanksgiving! Jancee and Ashley spent the night at my house last night, and we stayed up way too late, so when I told them we needed to get moving and head out this morning...we were moving a touch slowly!
We got ready and jumped in the car and headed towards Parkville - the Parkville Turkey Trot has been on the Thanksgiving day agenda for years now. Bill, Kim and Bailey got down there early and picked up our packets. We stopped at QT for fuel and hot chocolate! Thankfully, it wasn't anywhere near as cold as it has been in years past - it was a beautiful day! There is always a great turnout for the 5k run/2 mile walk...and it's fun to see folks you know out there. This year, we saw lots of familiar faces - mom and dad brought Tucker and Max out for the festivities, Scott (from Epic Bike and Sport) was out there with his Father in law, Terry and Marcus, Dave, the Beyer family, and other friends from my old church - good to see everyone.
So, Kim, Jancee, Ashely and I started the run together....at some point, Kim and I turned around and couldn't spot the girls, so we kept going. We were giving them trouble after the run, telling them we're more than double their age and beat them! (it's okay, girls!)
I was really proud of Marcus - this was his 2nd time running it, and he wanted to do it in 20 minutes (cough, choke...no way could I do that!). He nearly did it! His end time was just a few seconds over 20! Of course, I should mention that Terry came in super close behind him, which is pretty incredible too! Good job, fellas!
After I dropped the girls off at their houses, I headed home to clean up and make food for dinner. I always think I'm gonna have time to take a nap, but somehow that just never works out quite right.
Bill, Kim, Bailey and I all got over to mom and dad's at the same time. I love walking into a house that smells DELICIOUS! Once again, the meal was fantastic! (thanks mom!) We sat around for a little while...trying to let our guts settle. ha ha
This year, we did something a bit different - Bill, Kim, Bailey and I went down to the Plaza and saw a movie this evening. (Dad had to get up really early for work, and mom was exhausted from all the prep, so they stayed home). After the movie, the Plaza lights were already on! We walked around a bit and looked at the lights and watched all the strange people. :-) It was a nice change in tradition and we had a good time.
So, there you have it - another very Happy Thankgiving!!!
