(sigh....) I'm heading home

Well, the Ironman journey ends today - at least the trip part of it. As you read on my blog weeks ago, Ironman kinda stays with you forever...I hope that's true. I woke up this morning and was mindful of soaking in these last few hours on the lake.
I turned on the fire, made some coffee and sat there looking out over the lake as the sun came up.

I packed everything up and headed into CDA one final time, to drop off the keys to the rental house. Oh, I did stop into Jamba Juice and saw Steve's buddy one more time too! :-)

Then I was off to Spokane, back to the airport. I had plenty of time, since I wasn't sure how quickly the folks at Dollar would be moving. The plane took off at 3:25pm and I was on my way back to KC. This time, I was flying through Vegas. I've never been to Vegas, and after visiting the airport (I know, I know...not a true indication of a place), I'm not sorry. The flight out of Vegas was over an hour delayed, so I just found a spot on the wall and got on my laptop.

Finally it was time to board the plane. I wasn't really looking forward to the long flight, and knew it would be packed, which was even less appealing! Originally we would land in KC at 11:45, but now it would be closer to 1 a.m.

I was fortunate to sit by a nice fella and though I promised not to talk to him the entire flight, that's exactly what happened. Are you sorry you asked about my travels, Brad? ha ha He got an earful about the Ironman, and I even attempted talking him into doing the whole triathlon thing. Before we knew it, we had exchanged a bunch of stories, looked at 150 pictures - no, these were not mine, so simmer down everyone! - even the guy behind us enjoyed the slide show. ha ha - anyway, before we knew it 3 hours had flown (no pun intended) by and we were in KC. So, thanks Brad, for the good trek home!

Kim and Bailey were kind enough to pick me up at that crazy hour, and I was especially happy to see that my car was all cleaned up and ready to roll. When I got home, all my stuff from the race was sitting in the house. I just couldn't let it stay there any longer - my wet, gross clothes and gear - yuck! So, I pulled everything out of the bags and tried cleaning things up a bit. I guess I finally got to bed around 2:30 a.m., which technically was just 12:30 CDA time.
