After our initial lake swim, we walked over to the registration area and got Troy all signed up. While he was in the tent registering, Cathy and I went over to the sign-making tent and made some signs for him to see out on the course.
He got through the line really quickly, so we met back up with him and walked around the expo a bit. Must have food. We found a great Italian place to eat - I think it was called Sweet Tomatoes (though it's not like the sweet tomatoes we have in KC). We had some tasty pasta/bread/salad - good stuff.
I dropped Troy and Cathy at their house and headed home. I immediately headed to bed for a much needed nap! My family has been awesome! I feel badly that I haven't been able to spend much time with them, but they've been FABULOUS at helping me prepare for the race, and staying low-key. I think I slept about an hour or so, and then got up and got ready for the welcome dinner. I picked Troy and Cathy up, and we headed into town. Steve was coming to the dinner with us, so we just met him down there. This was fun - we got to meet the athletes from Denver who are doing the race too, and we all sat together at dinner. They showed a couple videos that actually just made me a little more nervous - real "pump you up"-type Ironman videos. Well, one was actually providing instruction about the race. Anyway, here and there throughout the night, Steve threw in little bits of instruction for Troy and I - every little bit helps at this point.
As we were walking back to the car after dinner, we ran into Scott Rigsby (double amputee who attempted CDA last year and after a bike crash and a few other set-backs, was not able to finish that race - but went on to Kona and became the first double amputee to compete there...and he finished!). We said hello and asked if he had time for a photo. Cathy got a couple shots with the three of us. Pretty cool!
I dropped them off and told Troy I'd come get him in the a.m. - we're meeting Steve for another swim in the lake. Oh boy!
