I couldn't have prepared for that!

So, this morning, I was up before 5...what?! The thing is, I've been sleeping like a rock - even falling asleep just about the second my head hits the pillow, but once I'm awake, it's over. My brain turns on and I gotta get up. So, I was typing on the ol' laptop a bit, drinking coffee, etc.
Again, we went over some race stuff. Kim made a YUMMY b'fast (good thing I brought her along, eh? ha ha) - eggs, turkey bacon, pancakes - I ate b'fast and pretty quickly following that Steve and I left to meet Troy. We picked up Troy and Cathy and went into CDA for a lake swim. Steve had to go work on bikes and such, so we hit the swim on our own. Well, us and a hundred other athletes. I put on the wetsuit, booties, body glide, etc. I skipped on the neoprene hoodie, thinking I wouldn't really need it. Troy and I walked down and got in the lake. Cathy took pics of us, so should be fun seeing those. We just kinda waded in slowly - it was definitely cold, but the booties were helpful (also helpful not having to feel all the rocks you were walking on down to the water!). As the water soaked into the wetsuit, you could really feel the cold, but nothing could've prepared me for sticking my face in that water - YOWZAH!!!! It was so cold it hurt, actually! My first couple strokes I was in shock, and then I started thinking, "I'm not sure I can do this...my face, head and hands are soooo cold!" It was a little similar to the shock of an ice cream brain freeze. It's really hard to put into words exactly what it felt like. Anyway, after a few little gasps and picking up my head several times, I settled in and reached the first marker on the course. Troy and I stopped and were bobbing there, talking about the cold. I really didn't feel like I could complain too much, since he is wearing a SLEEVELESS wetsuit! We swam to the next marker and checked in again. I was feeling alittle dizzy, but nothing too bad. We swam about 1/2 way out the "out" portion of the course, cut across the lake, and swam back in. As we reached the shore, we were both pretty dizzy. I almost felt nauseous. Oh, and I neglected to mention that at the 2nd marker, we were adjusted to the cold. So, good to know that it will take 5-10 minutes for the body to numb up! ;-)
We got our balance and walked back up to where Cathy was waiting. It was nice to have dry clothes to put on pretty quickly too. So, there we go, that was the swim. We both felt great physically - I noted that I was super calm once I got going and my HR didn't even seem to be phased, so that's all good. now, just add in 1900 more people and race day jitters and we'll see how it goes.

WOW, so would that hood have helped - or not really. Guess nothing would really help that much 'cause you still gotta put your face in. Well, maybe the lake will warm up 10 or 20 degrees really quick (I know - that's not possible - just wishful thinking for you).

Just wanted to drop in and wish you luck. Be safe in that frigid water and have fun! This is what you've been working so hard for and no matter how you place, it's a memory that will stay with you for a lifetime!

Dawn ~

It's 2:30 pm and I am thinking of you right now; I have been the last few days, nights, and hours....I've even had dreams about you and the race. Curt, my brother Jimmy, and I have been working this weekend redoing the landscaping at my office and I've been keeping them posted as I am tracking you on ironman.com....we all are so proud of you and can't believe the true athelete you've become.

You've been in my prayers all day and I can't wait to hear all about it.

Must talk soon about coming to see you.

Love you. Cindy

Well, you are in the thick of it all now! I keep watching to see if you have hit the next leg of your bike journey. It is so neat to be able to track you. I need to talk with you about how quickly you were in and out of the first transition area - 7 minutes. When did you become a pro in changing clothes so quickly??? :)

I am so proud of you! I look forward to seeing how you finish up. I think your time has been good (I know that you weren't going to focus on that).

It is so strange to think that in a few short hours all that you have trained for is finally going to be done. I don't know what you will do next to challenge yourself but I am sure that you will think of something.

I am praying for your safety and for your toe issue. I hope that wherever you are right now that you are feeling good.

Love ya,
Lonnie

This afternoon while I was working out (hope you're impressed;-) I was thinking and praying for you the whole time. All the best, my friend. Tucker will be so proud!! xoxo Sharon

Woooo-hooooo Dawn, "You are an IRONMAN!!" We saw you and Troy cross the finish. Quite neat. I didn't notice the man say Troy's name, but Michael caught it and said, "There he is!!" We had a little warning when you were about to cross. Michael and I kept trying to pick you out from a distance. When you came into view we were both positive that we had the right person. You looked great crossing that finish line! We cheered and hugged. Interestingly enough, a few minutes ahead of you was a girl from Altamonte Springs. I think her name was Amy Smith. And, we saw some guy propose to his girl at the finish line.

Congratulations! Sharon

I thought about you alot yesterday and now the race is behind you. You should be so proud of yourself. I have never had that kind of "drive" to do something like that. Anyway, I can't wait to hear about it when you get back (or read about it on your blog).

How AMAZING!!! I am so proud of you. I know all of the hard work, preparation, and support was worth crossing the finish line and YOU DID IT!!! I am so anxious to read your blog regarding how you felt and what was going thru your head....

All of that doesn't compare with the fact that you are and athelte who completed the IRONMAN.

Congratulations to you!

Your final race results weren't posted yet when I went to bed last night, but I woke up in the night and it's the first thing I thought of, so I got up in the 3's to check on you. Huge Congrats! You did it! I can't wait to read about it.
