Alright, I've been MIA for several days...at least from blog-land. Training is peaking and energy is fading! :-)
So, let's see, what has been going on. Well, we had a function for the ladies of our church this past Friday night. Kathy and I did a skit at it, so we spent a few evenings this week trying to get everything together. A long time family friend was the guest speaker, so it was great seeing her too! I got home WAY past my bedtime, so I tried getting a few things together for Saturday's, and hit the hay.
Saturday - Troy and I met at 7(ish) to start our ride. It is May, isn't it? Well, noone informed the weather! It's COLD...again...still. I feel like I could just say, "ditto" to all of our other rides this winter, and it would cover things. We had some bad weather roll through here Thursday night, and the winds are sticking around. It was in the low 40's at the start of our ride, and winds were 20-21mph. That's just the steady winds - I don't know what the gusts were. Anyway, we were bundled up and headed out. I was actually kind of excited about the ride, 'cause we were supposed to do 100 miles today. I found an extension to a familiar route we ride, and it was great! The route took us away from the traffic, and had some nice rolling hills and a couple climbs. Very good. We both seemed to be doing just fine until around mile 50 or so. We hit this stretch that just took us FOREVER to get anywhere. The winds had picked up and it was really pretty miserable. Finally we got back to Dearborn, where we stopped at a little gas station for some MUCH needed fueling! After stretching out a little and eating, I was feeling a lot better, but I still wished the wind would die down a bit. Our break was a little too long, but we did get going again. Thankfully, the last 20 miles or so, we had a tailwind - so, so, so very nice! When we finished up, we only had 90 miles. And, though we were both a little disappointed with that, we worked our TAILS off for those 90 miles!
My fabulous mother cooked a nice pasta dinner for me and I ate with my folks and hung out for a bit.
Sunday - I should've really gotten up early to run, so I could've napped in the afternoon, but that just didn't happen. After church, I hurried home, grabbed a bite to eat and headed out for my run. Today was an hour and 45 minutes, so not terrible. My legs didn't get that message...the one that it wasn't terrible. I just had absolutely no zip whatsoever today. It was all I could do to keep my feet shuffling down the trail. However, it was an absolutely GORGEOUS day!!! I was very thankful for the warmth, sunshine and less wind!
Monday - taught spin class and went to work. After work I had another fabulous massage! I'm tellin' ya, I'm so sorry I wasn't doing this sooner, though Kent is probably happy that I haven't been hounding him any longer than a few months. :-)
Tuesday - boy, this masters swim is a great workout! Today was one of those days that just really took it out of me. It's hard enough getting up at 4:30 every morning, let alone jumping in the pool and really pushing yourself. It's great being able to do these workouts with Troy, and to have Paul (the coach)watching and passing along tips.
As I neared the end of the workout today, I was thinking...ok, I only have like 600 yards left to swim. When we stopped at the wall for our 20 sec recovery and I said to Troy, "remember when we thought 500 yards was a huge workout? I mean, that *was* our workout." We both chuckled and continued the swim. I've said this many times over the last few months, but you really do lose perspective and sight of where you started. These things are good reminders!
I literally just finished my 45 minute run for the evening and now need to eat, shower, pack up my stuff for tomorrow and hit the hay. Oh, and if I want my 8 hours of sleep, I have exactly 44 minutes to do all of that. So, GOOD NIGHT!
