Spring in my step?

Could it be? Do I really have a spring in my step after yesterday's ride? All during the ride, I just kept thinking...I get to sleep in tomorrow...sleep....ah, I get to sleep in...can't wait to sleep in...

You can imagine how excited I was to wake up and see that it was light out! I actually slept until after 7 a.m.! Yippee! I got up, made some coffee and was enjoying a little bit of lazy. Kathy called to tell me that one of their neighbors had dropped off some QT hot chocolate - oh, I love that stuff! It was somewhere in the upper 30's or 40's this morning, so that would be perfect! I rushed over. Oh, I forgot to mention that they were having a garage sale. Tucker and I went over and "helped" for a little bit. I think he may have actually scared away a few customers. ha ha

I headed out for a run a little before noon. By now, it had warmed up and the sun was shining. It was refreshing to be exercising on a day that was actually *nice* for a change. I left the iPod in the car this time and hit the road with my thoughts. I'm one of those strange birds who almost prefers no music/tv or whatever your distraction of choice when working out - for the most part - and especially when I'm running on a day like today.
I did a lot of thinking when I was out there. After yesterday's ride, I was feeling a little overwhelmed with what I'm attempting here - I was just reminded that I didn't wake up one day and sign up for an ironman. Everyone starts somewhere, right? I started thinking back to where all this began for me, remembering when I couldn't even run 1 mile, and today's 7-miler was "short" for me. So, it's all in perspective.

I've had many conversations in the past 8 months or so where people will talk about doing a 5k or 1/2 marathon, or taking an aerobics or spinning class, and they'll quickly follow it up with..."yeah, but I don't do what you're doing..." Ya know, it just doesn't matter. What's important is that you're doing something and enjoying it. Get out there and move, no matter what the distance or speed!

Glad you had lovely weather, but you sent the yucky stuff to us. I was cold all day - still am. Didn't get to be outside at all - instead, I administered achievement tests to two boys (not mine). Have to give the test again to another boy tomorrow. M and N don't take them this year, so that's nice.

I'm the same way Dawn! Yesterday I had a 4 mile run and I Just went with no music. It was a beautiful day and I wanted to just take it in.

I also agree with you on the exercising. Just get out and do something..whether its a 5k, walk around the block, or an ironman! KEEP IT UP!

Yeah, I remember limiting my participation in events to strictly cycling. Then I did that tri this weekend and now I'm cycling and running. Figuring out the swimming part is still an obstacle but for now, I could be bad at the swimming and make up for it where I'm strong...the ride, and maintain in the run. At least until I get to be a better swimmer. So much for my self-set limitations eh? =)
