Sign of things to come...

Well, my day started far earlier than I would've liked. For some reason I woke up at 2:30 (yes, that's a.m.), and just couldn't go back to sleep. This doesn't happen to me very often, and I'm pretty thankful for that! I got up and tried to get things done and get ready for my trip. It would've been a fairly early start anyway, because my dad was scheduled for knee surgery at 7:30 this morning. I arrived at the hospital a touch before 7, just in time to walk down the hall with him (and several others who were prepped for surgery, I might add - kinda funny). I also had time to take this pre-surgery photo of a very happy patient. Yes, this is BEFORE they even gave him any medication! :-)

Who doesn't look good in a hospital gown?! Dad seemed to be pretty calm and ready to go. We hugged/kissed him goodbye, and watched him (along with the parade of his new best friends) walk through the big double doors that lead into the surgical area.
Mom and I took up residence in a secret family waiting area - you must understand that it was VERY nice to be in this little room by ourselves. The other family waiting area is packed with people...typically pretty strange agents...so this was great. We wandered downstairs to the cafeteria (scary place!) and grabbed some coffee

then, it was back to our private quarters to wait...and wait...and wait...

A couple hours later, the doc appeared and gave us the news that Dad did well with the surgery and was now in recovery. They found a tear in the meniscus on each side of the knee, and also discovered that most of the cartilage in his knee is gone, so sounds like he needs to have knee replacement surgery in the not-so-distant future. We're happy that things went well, and he is already well on his way to recovery -

I cannot help but think that this is likely a sign of things to come for me, what with all the torture I inflict on my knees. However, I think it's pretty unlikely that I will still be updating this blog at that juncture! ha ha
