Well, this morning I met Troy and Terry out at Heritage Park for a brick workout. The weekend's weather was supposed to be beautiful, but when we got out there, it was very overcast and looking like rain, so we got started pretty quickly. It wasn't until the turnaround that I realized how windy it really was - ouch. So, there's about a 30 minute stretch where you're just pedaling straight into the wind. Fun stuff! Anyway, we all just went our own pace (meaning I was left in their dust), and settled in for a couple loops. I was quite happy to finish my second loop and thought the run would feel good. Nope, that wasn't the case either. Terry and I started out at the same time (Troy was doing another loop on the bike), and while I knew he would immediately bury me, it didn't lessen the pain when it actually happened. So, I chugged along as Terry became a tiny spec ahead of me. :-)
I think the loop is only about 2 miles, and when I got about 2/3 of the way around, my quads were knotting up, just above the knee. I could literally see the "knots" sticking out. I've never experienced that, and it wasn't very comfortable. I just kept running/walking/running/walking, and then walked it out at the end.
All the while I'm thinking about the Prairie Punisher, which is a week away...I haven't run much due to the incident with my orthodics, and I will likely pay dearly for that when I have to run the 6 miles next Sat.
So, I had a bit of a pity party for myself at the end of the workout. It's nice working out with guys - I find that I definitely push myself harder than if I were on my own, but the flip side is that you finish the workout feeling pretty pathetic!
On with the day - it's funny to get the workout in so early - I'm driving home and it's 9:30 in the morning. I'm thinking, geesh, some of my friends aren't even up yet!
I didn't really do much, aside from a little nap, some house cleaning and a walk in the evening with Tucker...this was my Saturday!
