I scheduled today off of work, however, I ended up having to do two conference calls from home this morning. That's what pays the bills, right? No worries, I wrapped up the last conference call at 11 and called Jen to see what our plan was for the trek to Topeka.
We headed to Topeka around 1, and little did we know, the rest of our day would be filled with frustration! Let's just say that I don't hold any fond memories of the place. We checked into the host hotel for the Tinman race - our room was hot/muggy. We picked up our packets in the lobby, dumped our gear in the room, and headed out to check out the course. This is when we recalled that there were NO maps in our packets. This is a first. Typically you print all that stuff off, only to get double or triple the papers with packets and such. So, we thought surely we could find it. Nope, not the case. We actually stopped and asked three different folks where this lake was and each of them directed us entirely different. URGH! I'll admit it now ('cause I'm sure Jen will attest to this) I was C-R-A-B-B-Y!!! We just wanted to see the course and ended up in the car for HOURS! Oh well.
Finally we found the park and started looking for the transition area. It honestly took us forever to even find it. At that point, we were both so tired, hungry and sick of being in the car that we didn't even bother trying to figure out the course!
We drove around trying to find some food. First we were in search of some pasta...then b'fast food. Well, all we found was a Denny's. Yes, that's right, I said Denny's. Yuck! It was pretty entertaining, but that was about it.
Back to the hotel to get everything ready. All the direction trouble really ate into our time to veg, so we pretty much went right to bed.
Did I mention that the room was hot/humid?
