More mountains!

I've never been to Salt Lake City, or any other city in Utah, for that matter. I'm not sure why, but I was almost surprised to see all the mountains out the windows of the airport...and so snow-covered! Even driving to my hotel, I kept expecting to get farther away from the mountains, but it wasn't the case - it seemed like the city just appeared out of nowhere. It's a pretty place. Not to belabor the point of the mountains, but I could see them from my hotel room window too.
I needed to do a 1hr 15min run today, but by the time i got to the hotel, I needed to get showered and dressed for my meeting. We were supposed to have some time between the meetings and dinner, so I'll just run then - that was the plan anyway.
Of course, I should know by now that the plans just don't ever work out the way you want them to. Our meeting ended late, and we had about 20 minutes between that and dinner. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of meetings you attend where you can sneak out pretty well unnoticed, but not the case here. It's a smaller group and I really needed to attend the dinner. We met in the lobby just before 6 and walked to the restaurant. Here again, it's all part of the job, but I get a little weary of standing around for "cocktail" hour. Can't we just sit down for dinner, and you people can order your drinks then? I'm not a drinker, so I stand around with my water while everyone tells me how crazy they think I am for not drinking. I'm crazy alright, but it's not because I don't drink! ha ha
These were all very nice folks, so we had a good time talking about work, the industry and life in general. We headed into dinner at 7. I'm pointing out the level of detail because it was WAY TOO long after 7 that we were walking back to our hotel. I know, I know...I'm a fuddy duddy, but I like to eat around 5 or 6 and go to bed before 10 these days. I don't think they had even ordered dessert before 10. Yeowch! Guess I won't be getting that run in after dinner either!!!
As soon as the opportunity presented itself, a few of us at my end of the table made the move to exit. Yeehaw. I got in be shortly before 12 - I'm beat!
