The Saddle Test

For those of you who don't know, a "saddle" is the seat on your bicycle. I actually do remember laughing at Terry many moons ago when he would talk about "saddles" - why don't they just call is a seat? I don't know. Sorry, Terry! :-)

So, Terry found a neat thing on Competitive Cyclist web site. It's a Saddle Demo Program. You can read more about the specifics if you're interested, but for someone in search of a new saddle, this is a pretty good deal. They send 11 saddles for you to test ride for a week, and you send them back and apply a portion of the initial fee towards your end saddle purchase.

Well, I'm looking for a new saddle for my tri bike, and it just so happened that I was scheduled for a 4 hour ride today. Perfect scenario to test the demo saddles, eh? Terry got me set up on the one I thought I was most apt to like, and I started out on that. I ended up riding it for 2 hours, then we started swapping them out every so often. With a few of the saddles, it was an immediate "no way!", and the demo lasted all of about 5 minutes. Others were 20 minutes or so. At any rate, I think I landed on one that I like. I plan to ride it again one or two more times and make a final call.

On the note of the 4 hour ride - indoors, on the trainer - not my preference, and very painful mentally! I hope these winter days are winding down and the lovely outdoor spring riding will be here soon!

That is awesome! If I don't end up getting a new bike before IM, I'm going to do this! There's no way I'll last on my current saddle for 112 miles...I won't be able to have children afterwards....Thanks Dawn!
